The Role of Ruse in Challenging Treatment Norms
Leon Morales-Quezada, MD, MSc, PhD, MPH
Dr. Leon Morales-Quezada is the Associate Research Director of the Neuromodulation Center at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. He is a post-doc in Integrative and Complementary Medicine, in the Division of General Medicine and Primary Care at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Harvard Medical School. He has trained in emergency medicine and intensive care, and is fellowship-trained in neurological rehabilitation. He holds a master’s in neuropsychology and rehabilitation, a doctorate in cognitive neurosciences, and a master’s in public health. His research focuses on noninvasive neuromodulation and brain stimulation in neurocognitive rehabilitation. He is investigating the effects of open-label placebo and opioid conditioning in patients with spinal cord injury and pain. His goal is to understand the neurophysiology behind the placebo effect, and to use it in the clinical arena as therapeutic intervention.
Ginger Polich, MD
Dr. Ginger Polich is an outpatient clinician and researcher at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and BWH. She received a BA in Sociocultural Anthropology from Amherst College, a MS from UC – Berkeley, and a MD from UC – San Francisco. Dr. Polich completed her Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency and her brain injury medicine fellowship at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. She is interested in recovery after brain injury, neuropsychiatry, placebo/nocebo effects, and mindfulness interventions.
